So, while looking for a place to drink on Saturday night, my friend and I stumbled across this place called Antidote.
You might think that it’s in some far flung corner of Singapore (being stumbled upon and all), but it’s actually in the heart of the city. Located in Farimont, Singapore, it’s undoubtedly accessible- begging the question of why we’ve never been there before.
I think the term is “hiding in plain sight”.
We arrived at about 930pm after stuffing ourselves silly with roast beef and sausages. To be honest, we were both stuffed and looking for a a good digestif to help cure out after-dinner bloatedness.
Our first impression was a good one; we were greeted promptly at the door by one of the friendly service staff. She gave us the choice of a seat near the bar area, which was definitely beautiful- judge for yourself.
Having just had a nice, filling dinner, we elected instead to recline in a darker, more private area of the bar,. Quiet and spacious, it was a nice place to just sit down, let our bellies sag a little, and enjoy the remainder of the evening.
We were promptly given the menu, which contained a selection of 23 cocktails, complete with descriptions and illustration of every single mix, and a 1-5 rating on its refreshment value and potency. We noticed some interesting names, ranging from normal sounding (Brown Derby) to downright scary (Corpse Reviver).
We elected for Promintory Point (Sherry, Angostura Bitters, Sweet Vermouth, Yelow Chartreuse, Orange Bitters and Cognac) and Treat of Kings (Tarragon, Mint, Pineapple,Soda Water and sour Pisco).
After about 5 minutes, our drinks arrived. The Treat of Kings looked pretty much what we expected of a drink made of pineapple.
A first sip confirmed what we read in the menu- a refreshing, pleasantly sweet drink with a minty aftertaste. That said, we could definitely taste the Pisco, a form of brandy. Definitely a good choice for a quick drink.
The Promintory point looked rather less appealing at first glance- a brown, syrupy looking liquid garnished with lemon peel.
Rather more potent than the King’s Feast, this bittersweet drink went right to the head.
Strangely enjoyable, I found a lot to like about its sheer knockout blow to the head. Though to be honest, I rather prefer the light, fruity drink.
My friend and I enjoyed our drinks in the comfort and privacy of our own little corner. The soft music in the background definitely helped set the mood as we digested the hearty dinner we had beforehand with the help of our rather potent alcoholic lubricant. Despite it being a Saturday night, we were never interrupted or rushed by the staff.
After a most pleasant evening, we left the bar on a high note, slightly buzzed and definitely relaxed. We’d definitely come back again.
I could make a lot of bad jokes about how this was the perfect antidote to our troubles here, but I think i’ll spare you this time, hehe.
