It’s been an exciting set of months at Changi Airport, at least if you’re into good wine and spirits. Many of the best spirits brands in the world have put up some particularly good pop-ups this season.
Well, Hennessy’s might just be the biggest one yet.
While there have been some pretty good pop-ups before, Hennessy’s is the largest one by far, as far as sheer size goes. It occupies a generous 150 square metres, which makes it comfortably bigger than many full restaurants and bars.
Sheer size isn’t all there is to it, however. While there is a sizable retail section (of course), the majority of the area is used as an experiential tasting room. The best way to describe it would be as a cross between movie theatre, science exhibition and food fair.
Seven Worlds
The experience begins with a short film, ‘Seven Worlds’. Based on the seven tasting notes of Hennessy X.O, director Ridley Scott created seven surrealist worlds. While new, they have share the spark of creativity from his previous work; Blade Runner, The Martian and even Kingdom of Heaven.
The ‘Seven Worlds’: Sweet Notes, Rising Heat, Spicy Edge, Flowing Flame, Chocolate Lull, Wood Crunches and Infinite Echo, are then presented as a sensory journey through seven exhibits.
While the details are best left to one’s own interpretation, we’re more than happy to tantalise with a taster of things to come.
Wondrous worlds of wood and sand, winding canyons and infinite mirrors.
The ears, the nose and tastebuds will be engaged with the sounds, scents and tasty morsels that Hennessy has prepared for the occasion.
Spiced marshmallows, dark chocolate and honey cinnamon lollipops provide a preamble to the ultimate destination: a sip of Hennessy X.O at the tasting bar.
All this for the grand cost of admission of zero bucks. As long as you’re travelling through the Changi Airport Terminal One Departure Transit area, you can stop by and check it out. It sure beats waiting around at Starbucks anyway. The pop-up store will run from now till February 2020, from 7am to 12am every day.
