And so, a new blog is born.
The question that I get all the time: Why Do It?
Admittedly, that’s a toughie. After all, it takes time and effort to do sit down and write. There’s the option to, you know, just drink. Why write about it?
Ah, but the greatest joy of drinking is not the sipping (though that’s great). It’s the sharing. I can almost hear the groans already. Such a carebear, you might say. Such a goodie-goodie.
Not even close.
For everyone who’s had a cold dinner by yourself, or got stuck on a boring Saturday afternoon having tea and biscuits by yourself, you know what i’m talking about. It’s sad. Drinking is not about flushing alcohol down your throat.
It’s about the experience.
It’s an adventure that starts with a sharp, sour taste on the tip of the tongue. Then, a sweetness slowly spreads in your mouth. Not saccharine, but a full, rich sweetness with a flavour you can’t quite pin down. You consider it as notes of tannin slowly appear. The slight bitterness doesn’t diminish the taste. It makes it richer. You swallow and close your eyes briefly, savouring the lingering notes that make their way up your throat. Ahh…
Then, you turn to your friend, laugh, and tell her how good it tastes. The hours melt away in the fullness of a great Italian Amarone wine.
That’s life. Sour, sweet, bitter and warmed by pleasant company.
So, this is not only a beer blog, or a whisky blog, or a wine blog. It’s a drinking blog.
I hope you stay in The Highest Spirits.
Cheers.
