The Singapore leg of the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2017 was off to a flying start earlier in March. It finally reached a head on the 29th, when the finals were held at Clarke Quay.
At the gruelling event, Davide Boncimino of The Other Room was declared as the winner. He will represent Singapore on the global stage in Berlin, starting 18 May.
We are glad to have tried all the finalists’ cocktails, and while all were good, there had to be a winner in the end. We are glad for Davide, who charmed the crowd and judges alike with his stupendous Marshall cocktail.
Davide said “Winning Bacardi Legacy feels surreal now, but I am really excited to represent Singapore in Berlin. Everyone put up a tough fight, and I am really honoured to have won this year’s competition.”
The night was certainly Davide’s, but we had a lot of fun with the other folks as well:
10 Moments We Loved
The opening numbers by local band Wicked Aura set the tone for a competition that was full of local talent.
It was not all stage performances, though. The finalists were serving their legacy cocktails to the public at their booths.
The fellows were good sports, and rum cocktails flowed before and after their individual presentations on stage.
Spirits were high amongst the finalists, nervous though they were, and they even seemed to be having fun at some point.
In fact, there was a fair amount of goofing around.
As happy as they seemed, we can say without reservation that all six poured their heart and soul into the competition. Sleepless nights and backbreaking work were common for the finalists, who not only had to create and serve their cocktails, but also run a marketing campaign and present their drinks live.
To complete the nerve-wracking presentations was no mean feat. Each had only a few minutes to tell the story of his Legacy cocktail, serve the drinks, and charm the crowd.
The audience was mesmerised. A testament to the finalists’ winning personalities, perhaps? Such was the camaraderie between the six that they were fans of each other!
Emotions ran high. We imagine there’s a kaleidoscope of feelings on display. Tension, excitement, joy, camaraderie. And perhaps, relief.
But at the end, it was all worth it. We wish Davide all the best in Berlin!
